Dead Ringers - BBC2 - 18th November 2002
Second Sequence:-
We are back at the Roman site with a different builder. He is wearing a green jacket and casual trousers. Different kind of guy, but much the same dead pan - going about his job. They are wandering round the site, much as before.
| Max: | I mean, I think we need to er, rebuild some of these fortifications, strengthen them. |
| Builder2: | Okay, is there any spec........and who did it originally, er? I mean, a lot of these have been....... |
| Max: | Yeah, I think they have, to a very low standard. I dunno who did it. They may have been crucified for such works since.

Builder2:: | You want to reconstruct something there ? |
| Max: | Yes, to reconstruct my home, just note down the specifications.

| Max: | The gates........beyond that - the Poplar tree, and on the slopes, olives to the North, grapes to the East. On the edge is soil - soil as black as my wife's hair........and if you can just em, take down the frame where they were burned and crucified by Commodus's soliders |
Builder2: | Yeah |
| Max: | Bit of a shame that these walls have crumbled

Builder2: | Yeah |
| Max: | being only a couple of thousand years old, they're quite new. |
| Max: | Must have been Charlatans who built these walls. I hope they werenÕt from your firm. |
Builder1: | Oh yeah. What, what....what is your.....what are your needs at the moment.....what do you require ? |
| Builder2: | No, I don't think so. I don't think we were around then, actually |
| Max: | What about the paths ? How could we improve these paths ?

Builder2: | Erm, well we could try decking them.

| Max: | Decking them ? |
| Builder2: | I'll tell ya. Wot I'll do is I'll make a few notes. I'll get Kevin to come back with you, em |
| Max: | Decking - I'm not too sure I like the sound of decking - what about in Saxon paving? |
| Builder2: | Saxon paving? We can do that. I'll put it down.. |
| Max: | Then again - not in Saxon Paving

| Builder2 (mumbles): | yeah right, Roman. |
| Max: | the Saxons are evil scum who should be wiped away. |
Max: | In three weeks from now I shall be harvesting my crops - imagine where you will be and it will be so. |
| Builder2 | Right, so I should get him to give you a ring in a couple of days or so, yeah? |
| Max: | yeah... If you find yourself walking around in green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled, for you are in Elysium and are already dead |
